Description Crafted from 34-year-old bush vines rooted in the foothills of the Helderberg Mountains, this distinctive Pinotage reflects both heritage and location. The grapes are meticulously hand- picked and hand-sorted, ensuring only the finest fruit is selected. Fermentation combines whole bunches and whole berries, enhancing structure and aromatic complexity. The wine is then gently basket-pressed and transferred by gravity into large barrels for maturation, preserving delicacy and purity. With no new oak employed, the focus remains firmly on fruit expression, while extended ageing in large-format barrels builds texture and depth. Every step, from vineyard to bottle, follows the most traditional and gentle methods, allowing the wine to evolve naturally and authentically. Pinotage itself was created in 1925 by Dr. Abraham Perold, who crossed Pinot Noir and Cinsault in a bold act of viticultural innovation. The name of the wine is linked to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein—a nod to its unconventional origins and the intrigue surrounding its character. The result is a wine of intrigue and complexity, balancing purity of fruit with layered texture and a sense of quiet craftsmanship.
